Huffington is a nationally syndicated columnist, author of 12 books and co-founder and editor of theHuffington Post, a progressive political blog. She’s also a political commentator on radio and television (including a popular stint on Comedy Central), and once ran for governor of California during the recall election against then-governor Gray Davis. She pulled out of the campaign, which was eventually won by Arnold Schwartzenegger. She was previously married to (and is now divorced from) millionaire Michael Huffington, who became elected to the U.S. House of Representatives during their marriage.

The Huffington Post, which is very well-financed, is the No. 4-ranked blog on Technorati and gets more than 18 million page views a month. Her site is also popular not only because of her writing but because of her celebrity friends, including close friends Nora Ephron and Norman Mailer.
